There are several regions where hybridization has occurred among kingsnake species. In these zones of intergradation individuals can be extremely variable. The individual shown here is from the Apalachicola lowlands, an area of intergradation between the eastern kingsnake and the Apalachicola kingsnake and is known to some as the blotched "intergrade" (Lampropeltis getula goini).
