Eastern Hognose Snake (Heterodon platirhinos)
When threatened the
Eastern hognose
plays dead by flipping over and opening its mouth. These snakes primarily eat toads so they are often encountered after heavy rains when frogs and toads are actively moving to breeding ponds.
