Eastern indigo snakes (Drymarchon couperi) are one of the largest snakes in the United States. They are a Coastal Plain species, inhabiting dry, open habitats. They are federally protected throughout their historic range from Mississippi to South Carolina, although today they can only be found in parts of Georgia and Florida.
